What Are the Different Types of Solid Surface Countertops?

When starting a redesign project for your kitchen, bathroom, or any space, choosing the right countertop can lead you down a one-way rabbit hole to decision paralysis. You want to make sure that you’re choosing the right texture, the right color, the right fit. That’s why we’ve put together a breakdown of your choices of Durasein Solid Surface and information on why solid surface is a great option for your next countertop material.

What Are Solid Surface Countertops?

Our Solid surface countertops are composed of two-thirds natural minerals and one-third high-performance acrylic resin and pigments. With our solid surface, you can create a seamless look that replicates the look of natural stone and choose from a variety of bold, beautiful colors to match your design ideals.

Despite looking like natural stone, solid surface is extremely pliable and can be thermoformed into different shapes, with standard woodworking tools including countertops with built-in sinks or shelves. You will love working with solid surface materials because the limit truly does not exist.

Why Choose Solid Surface Countertops?

Affordability

Solid surface countertops marry the beauty and durability of materials like granite, marble, and quartz, without the high cost associated. It feels just as solid as natural stone while giving you more room to play with some of your craziest ideas. After all, those materials cost a pretty penny for both parts and labor.

Durability

All types of solid surface kitchen countertops are more durable than even the toughest laminate materials. They’re also less demanding or high-maintenance than marble or granite while still offering the same beautiful finish.

Solid surface finishes are designed to last a lifetime and keep looking beautiful with minimal cleanup, resealing, or stain removal needed.

Customization

Our solid surface comes with a lot of opportunities for customization of shape, design, color, and beyond, and our specification team is at the heart of it all.

Our solid surface countertops have been the base for some of our wildest color experiments. Whether you need something inspired by the pinkish hues of an Orange County sunset or a neon green that’s perfect for an in-house rave, solid surface can help you capture any vibe imaginable.

We have dedicated specification representations ready to consult with you on your project—from sampling all the way through to fabrication.

The Different Types of Solid Surface Countertops

Color

Our solid surface countertop materials can come in a huge spectrum of color options. And we are always creating more color options! With Durasein, we are always pushing the limits of what the next solid surface color can and should be. Why be boring when you can stand out?

Whether you want a naturally inspired color or a statement color our options can help your design send a message.

Theme

We categorize our solid surfaces into three different themes. These can completely change the look and feel of your kitchen, bathroom, reception area, poolside bar, or open-air pizza oven surrounds.

The themes we offer at Durasein include:

  • Solid: This theme includes neutral shades like Natural White and Nocturne, as well as bold tones like Energy Orange and Spiritual Purple when you want to make a statement.
  • Chipped: Encapsulating a range of colors inspired by natural stones, the Chipped theme includes the glimmering white of Glacier Tundra and the sand-inspired Oahu, as well as deep tones like Coal and Nightfall.
  • Veined/marbled: This theme captures the metamorphic beauty of marble by replicating the darker veins captured in the classic white stone. There are also darker shades that replicate the look and feel of granite or the depths and elegance of outer space.

Collection

Have you ever experienced decision paralysis when looking at a collection of hundreds of different swatches? We’ve been there. That’s why we’ve categorized our solid surface colors into collections that help you narrow down the exact look and feel you want for your next big project.

Here are a few collections of our favorite things:

  • Balanced: The Balanced collection is designed to make you feel at ease and calm your frayed nerves with its nature-inspired white and beige options.
  • Brilliant: This collection was designed for the people who take the phrase, “go big or go home,” seriously. These bright, solid colors are for when you need your counter to be the center of attention.
  • Charming: Designed for those who want something a bit more understated, these veined surfaces exude calm, effortless perfection.
  • Dreamy: Made with your most elegant design fantasies in mind, these white veined surfaces leave a lasting impression with subtlety and grace.
  • Lively: The Lively collection adds a bit of energy and spice to your countertop design in a range of light and dark shades.
  • Rooted: The Rooted collection mimics the warmth and visual texture of wood to help you design outside the stone-colored box.
  • Timeless: Sometimes, the simplest colors are the ones that never go out of style. The Timeless collection captures everything from solid white to chipped gray and black for a range that captures taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Clean Solid Surface Countertops?

To clean your solid surface kitchen countertop of everyday messes, you can use warm water and soap, ammonia-based cleaners, or dedicated countertop cleaners to get rid of any dirt or residue on the work surface left over from your latest attempt at making homemade sushi.

If your countertop has a stain or scratch, you can use a damp microfiber cloth and a household cleaner to get rid of most stains. Otherwise, you may need to use an abrasive cleaner like baking soda mixed with water to get rid of small scratches or stains.

For deeper scratches, such as those left behind by your kids roughhousing with toy cars or teaching themselves to become drummers, a solid surface repair kit can help you get your kitchen countertop looking like new again.

Can Solid Surface Countertops Be Recycled?

Solid Surface materials can be recycled and you’ll want to work with an expert who can help you remove and recycle any current solid surface material you have once you’re ready to update your kitchen or bathroom. When you are having your solid surface countertop fabricated, ask for any off-cuts and how they can be used for another project. That is the beauty of solid surface—all of the material can be used and does not need to be simply discarded when fabricating.

Yes! However, we recommend leaving this to the professionals—our expert installers can help you get better results using some of the tools and tricks we have up our sleeves.
